The promise of winter
As the pearls of white settle on the untrodden path, And a whisper of the cold finds its way into your heart, As the sun becomes shadowed by an un-wept cloud, The promise of winter is yet to be found. As the birds settle into their homey nests, And the bears are shrouded in a white blanket to rest, As the chill creeps in when the road is bare, Families huddle in each other's warmth and care. As the streetlights dim and the sky grows dark, And the only light is found in lovers' spark, As the lakes freeze over and heaters are switched on, The promise of winter has finally dawned.
